ICMP project — families of the missing (Saqlawiya)

Alwaleed Relief and Human Development Organization, with funding from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) under its 2024 Small Grants Program, conducted the eighth session of the project "Improving Effective Participation of the Families of the Missing" with the families of the disappeared in Saqlawiya District. The session aimed to identify the principal issues hindering the stabilization of their economic and social conditions, explore ways to address them, and document their most pressing problems while resolving some of them. The session was attended by the Director of Saqlawiya District, Mr. Omar Hikmat Al-Mohammadi, whose initiatives focused on the following:
- Petitioning the Chairman of the Anbar Provincial Council to make an exception for families of the disappeared in receiving compensation.
- Following up with the Fallujah Passport Office to expedite the procedures for families of the disappeared in obtaining a quick response on whether the missing person had travelled abroad or not.
- Approaching the donor, the International Commission on Missing Persons, to include representatives of the Saqlawiya local government and tribal leaders in international and local conferences in order to internationalize the issue of the missing.
- Approaching the donor, the International Commission on Missing Persons, to develop an advanced database documenting the social and economic conditions of the families of the missing, in order to gain an accurate picture of their situation.
- Including the families of the missing in food assistance programs in coordination with the Department of Migration and Displaced Persons in Anbar Governorate.
